Tara Packrafting Expedition

Overview

Join us in this epic Tara River packrafting adventure and discover the wild side of Montenegro nature from unique and different perspective! Packrafting the crystal clear, emerald green waters of the Tara river, conquer exciting rapids and immerse yourself in the stunning beauty of Europe’s deepest canyon.

Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive at Podgorica Airport, meet your host, and kick back for a scenic drive through Montenegro, making your way to the village Djurdjevica Tara. Once you reach the riverside camp, check in to your cosy room, get to know your fellow adventurers, and chat through the adventure with your guide. Take in the beautiful scenery with spectacular view on one of the most beautiful bridges in the World and Tara river canyon. Then, dig into a tasty traditional dinner at the camp’s restaurant.

Day 2

Mini-expedition begins! After breakfast, there is short drive through stunning canyon scenery to the start spot near village, where we will prep the packrafts with everything you’ll need for the next three days, then set off to our first destination. This section lasts five to six hours, from the starting point of Sljivansko to Radovan Luka and village Tepca where is also deepest point of canyon – 1300m. On your way you will see the spring “Ljutica” – which is recognizable as one of the most important natural jewels of the Tara River and the most powerful spring in Europe, the famous bridge on the Djurdjevica Tara, which with its five arches and a height of 150 meters, is a real architectural masterpiece. It is known that during the construction of this bridge, the wooden scaffolding used at that time was the largest ever made in Europe. Depending on the wishes of the group, we are able to visit the Monastery of Saint Michael the Archangel from 15th century and bathe in the cold “Green Springs”. Next, we continue downstream through the canyon, coming across a number of places, such as: Bijela vrela, Obodina, Ninkovica port, Draga canyon, and we end at Tepca village where we spent our first night at local guesthouse. Day 3

Awaken to the soothing sounds of the river, grab a cup of coffee or tea, and savor breakfast by the river bank before departing the acommodation to continue the expedition. You’ll venture further into the canyon, surrounded by towering cliffs and waterfalls as you sail downstream. Throughout day there will be regular stops to stretch your legs, enjoy a snack and the beauty of the waterfalls, with opportunities for a refreshing swim in the calmer sections. The second night will be spent in comfortable riverside chalets on the Bosnian side. Total distance: 22km, Duration: 5-6 hours.

Day 4

Last day of the expedition promises a thrilling and unforgettable experience all the way to the end. You’ll start by hitting the water and preparing for the most intense rapids of the journey, navigating through the river’s fastest segment—a 6km stretch filled with several class III rapids. Experienced guide will be there to assist, and if anyone feels uneasy about tackling certain rapids, there are paths along the riverbank to walk around them. Conclude the final 8km stretch of packrafting route as you head towards the Bosnian border. Total distance: 14km. Duration: 4-5 hours.
