Tara River Canyon – Europe’s Deepest Canyon

Carved over millennia by the emerald waters of the Tara River, the Tara River Canyon is a jewel of the Balkans and one of Montenegro’s greatest natural treasures. Stretching 82 kilometers through Durmitor National Park, it plunges up to 1,300 meters deep, making it the deepest canyon in Europe and second only to the Grand Canyon worldwide.

Its crystal-clear waters, fed by mountain springs, rush over rapids and waterfalls, creating an unforgettable playground for packrafting. Towering limestone cliffs, ancient pine forests, and pristine beaches line the canyon, while wildlife such as chamois, otters, and golden eagles thrive in this untouched wilderness.
